Responsible for
- WAN connectivity issues,
- maintenance of CresSoft's external presence (nameserver zones, FTP access, email),
- day-to-day server support (backups, resource monitoring),
- assisting developers by writing or installing software,
- mail administration using qmail and related tools,
- intranet software development using Python and/or C,
- software to provide external clients with access to internal QA systems,
- operating system or vendor upgrades and security patches,
- server backups.
Maintained in-office Unix server, managed connectivity with the Internet, and worked with clients to troubleshoot Unix and Cisco networking issues.
Maintained a network of FreeBSD and Solaris machines. Shared responsibility for
- building, configuring, and maintaining the news server,
- upgrading and configuring both Solaris and BSD sendmail software,
- maintaining the mailing lists (used Majordomo, SmartList, and ezmlm, at different times),

Designed and implemented a Windows-based Tcl/Tk menuing and installation application for campus-wide Oracle forms access.
Provided Unix and network administration assistance for several campus-wide workstations and servers running HP-UX, FreeBSD and Dynix/PTX with a total user base exceeding 10,000 users. Responsible for
- porting 3rd party software to HP-UX and Dynix/PTX,
- maintained DNS servers, including upgrading the server software to ISC's BIND releases,
- writing C applications and shell/Perl scripts to automate account creating and Help Desk tasks,
- building, configuring, and maintaining the campus news server,
- building and configuring the campus web server,
- upgrading and configuring both HP and BSD sendmail software,
- maintaining and developing scripts for the campus list server (using both SmartList and Majordomo),
- worked with networking people on router configuration and network (firewall) traffic issues,
- assisted various departments and colleges around campus on Unix and policy administration issues.
Maintained computer labs and assisted users with software problems on PC and Mac-based systems, dealt with Novell servers.
Watched over two mainframes, dealt with user and hardware problems, submitted jobs, handled output and backup duties.
