The History of Clumsy Love

1995

March, 1995

Peter Patrick Burns, formerly of Vancouver rockers Shine, joins the band. He plays about a half-dozen gigs and takes sick before Moscow Mardi Gras, where Doug Cameron (then a member of The Bedheads) sits in on guitar for three sets of music he's never heard before. God bless him. Also in March, our existence is validated when George Wendt (NORM!) catches our show at the Railway Club in Vancouver, B.C., and buys a tape and t-shirt before leaving with a girl on each arm.

April, 1995

We are awarded a FACTOR grant by the Canadian Government, which will finance our coming CD.

May, 1995

Hughes leaves the band, and Quintin Rybuck (previously of the world beat circus NGOMA) joins on guitar. We are now a four piece with Ball, Jonat, Plenkovich, and Rybuck. You keeping score so far?

May-June, 1995

We record our CD at Bullfrog Studios in Vancouver, B.C.

June, 1995

Andrea Lewis joins the band as a summer replacement for Kevin Ball, who has a two-month commitment in Ontario.

July, 1995

We change the band's name to The Six Million Dollar Band (our engineer Ian's suggestion).

August, 1995

We officially release the Six Million Dollar Band's self-titled CD at PalousaFest at the University of Idaho, where we opened for The Posies. Andrea Lewis becomes a permanent member of the band.

September, 1995

David Plenkovich plays his last gig with the band, an in-store at A & B sound in Surrey, B.C., and Greg Smith joins as our new drummer.

November, 1995

We play at the Seattle Celtic Festival. Kevin Ball plays his last gig (for now) with the band at Good Times in Eugene, OR, and we are a four-piece again.
