Installing the Network Card

Warning! Before touching your network card, be sure to ground yourself by touching any medal on your computer system. This will help prevent any discharge of static electricity that may harm the card.

If you have not installed a card in your computer before, read over your computer manual before proceeding with this step. Familiarize yourself with how the computer cover is removed and replaced and with the instructions from the manufacturer provides for installing new cards.

  1. Turn off the power to your system unit and remove the cover.
  2. Select an appropriate slot for your network card. Most network cards use standard ISA slots.
  3. Remove the screw that secures the cover plate in place, and remove the cover plate.
  4. Align the card with the slot. Apply even downward pressure until the card is fully seated.
  5. Secure the network card with the screw you removed in step 3.
  6. Replace the cover and turn on the power to your system.

At this time Windows 95 should start booting up. Windows should detect the presence of new hardware and install the network card drivers. A disk from the network card maybe necessary here. Follow any instructions Windows gives you, and once the card drivers are installed normal boot up will continue.
